Menopause is a natural stage of a woman’s life, usually occurring between the ages of 45 and 55. However, every woman experiences it differently.
Changes in periods are often the first sign. Some women may also experience hot flushes, night sweats, mood changes, disturbed sleep, tiredness, vaginal dryness or difficulty concentrating. These symptoms can affect daily life, relationships and work.
Women should not feel embarrassed about discussing these changes. Menopause is not an illness, but some symptoms may need medical attention.
A healthy lifestyle can make this transition easier. Eat a balanced diet rich in vegetables, fruits, pulses, whole grains and adequate calcium. Stay physically active and include weight-bearing exercises as appropriate. Maintain a healthy weight, avoid tobacco and limit alcohol. Good sleep and stress management are also important.
Women should also discuss age-appropriate health checks with their doctor, including blood pressure, blood sugar, breast health and bone health.
If periods stop before the age of 40, or if there is unusually heavy or unexpected bleeding, medical evaluation is important.
At Sevayan Hospital, we encourage women to talk openly about menopause and seek timely guidance.
Menopause is a new chapter, not the end of wellbeing. Understand your body, care for yourself and seek help when needed.
